About Us
Hello! We are a group of moms (and dads) who are fluent in at least two languages. For many of us, Mandarin is our native tongue so we wanted to pass our legacy and heritage to our kids, even if we no longer live in a country where Mandarin is the primary-spoken language. Our ultimate goal was to help our kids learn Mandarin and gain an appreciation for the Chinese culture.
As we started this journey, more and more families reached out to us. Some of them had access to a native Mandarin teacher; most did not. After a year of research, we began designing our own video-based Mandarin for kids curriculum. We wanted to cover all four tenets of learning Mandarin – speaking, listening, reading, and writing. We wanted the program to be accessible from anywhere with a defined curriculum so parents and teachers can easily track learner progress. And on top of all these concerns, we wanted it to make it fun and engaging for young learners. We wanted our learners to LOVE learning Mandarin Chinese – and we did that by incorporating Chinese songs, stories, read-aloud books, and tons of original games, all designed to make learning Mandarin one of the best experiences for the child. For most of them, we are where they begin their lifelong journey of learning this wonderful language and it was important that we give them the best first impression possible.
That’s why we planned our Chinese lessons for kids age 2 to 11 according to the internationally acclaimed ACTFL 5C standards for language learning. Their objectives resonated with us – communications, culture, connections, comparisons, and communities. After all, learning a language is not just about acquiring the words; it’s about expanding one’s vision and connecting with the world.
One language sets you in a corridor for life. Two languages open every door along the way.
And the ability to open different doors anywhere…. well, that’s our hope for Little Chinese Learners.
